The ever juicy and tasty balut.

Balut is a boiled fertilized duck egg. The embryo is allowed to develop for 18 days before it is then cooked and served. Around the different places here in Ormoc, you will see different stalls for balut and penoy (boiled duck egg without the embryo. We, Filipinos would usually eat this along the street with a bit of salt and spicy vinegar.

Balut is popularly eaten during night time in the streets to avoid seeing its gross-looking appearance. Balut is very popular to us, Filipinos, especially among the guys because it is supposed to be an aphrodisiac.

Many people consider eating balut is the worst experience in their life. I have  friends like that. I always get a kick at seeing their faces turn from nervous to and embodiment of sheer fright the moment that it is served to them. But not me, balut is one of my favorite street food here in the Philippines.

Every now and then, there will be someone who will actually come around and say, “It’s not bad at all!”

The balut… The stuff of nightmares or a matter of taste? You decide.

I can suggest that balut is worth to taste for. So, don’t be afraid. Try!

Masaya sa Malapascua!

Malapascua is an island located in North Cebu, Philippines that has attracted local and foreign tourists, especially divers, because of its rich marine sanctuary. It is best known for Monad Shoal where thresher sharks can be seen regularly before sunrise.

But wait! There’s more!

There are plenty of things to do in Malapascua. Diving is not the only activity you can do in this island, it is also an idyllic destination for a laid-back holiday or a weekend getaway from the hustle and bustle of Cebu City. Malapascua island is also a jumping-off point to Kalanggaman Island in Palompon, Leyte.

You can also do Swimming and Beach Bumming. Although Malapascua is flanked by hotels, restaurants and bars has surprisingly retained its serenity. Lounge on the beach shores like most foreigners do. There are  some secluded coves in the island that are ideal for swimming since they aren’t crowded.

But I won’t recommend you to drive by yourself as you will get lost along the way, the roads are so tricky since you have to pass small alleys with peppered houses.
